Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai Airport in Tamil Nadu have achieved a major success. Officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle exotic pets at Chennai Airport. 22 exotic wildlife species have been seized from an Indian passenger at the airport.

The man arrived at Chennai International Airport from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The man has been identified as Mohammed Mira Sardharali. Both the passenger and the recipient were arrested by the authorities outside the airport.

What was found with the man?

One Siamang Gibbon (a monkey native to Indonesia and Malaysia), two Sunda Flying Lemurs, one Red-footed Tortoise, five Indo Chain Box Turtles, nine Four-eyed Turtles, one Keeled Box Turtle, two Green Tree Pythons and one White-lipped Python have been recovered.

Subsequently, a house in Kolathur was also searched. Where the team found more wildlife. These include an Indian Carapace Turtle, Tricarinate Hill Turtle, Black Pond Turtle, Star Turtle and Royal Ball Python.
