New Delhi: Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that every mobile tower will be monitored to reduce the rates of packet drop along with call drop. This monitoring will be done on quarterly basis and later it will be monitored every month. Telecom companies have also been asked to make their preparations accordingly.
He said that from next year efforts will be made to bring down the call drop rate to less than one percent. The call drop rate in India is about three percent. Many times during a call on a mobile phone, some words of a sentence are not heard, this is called packet drop. Currently, every tower of any city or area is not monitored.
Average number of call drops as per tower monitoring
The average of call drops is calculated by collective monitoring of towers. Monitoring of each tower will reduce call and packet drops in all areas. Scindia informed that continuous action is being taken to stop spam and fraudulent calls. More than 3.5 lakh connections making marketing calls without permission have been disconnected. 50 organizations doing such work have been blacklisted. 2.37 lakh mobile handsets have been blocked. Giving information about the work done during the 100 days of the third term of the Modi government, Scindia informed that 7258 new mobile towers have been installed during this period.
Mobile phone service started in more than 9500 villages
The advantage of this was that mobile phone communication service started in more than 9500 villages. At present, there is no mobile phone service in thousands of villages in the country. He said that in the last ten years, the mobile phone tariff has come down considerably.
In such a situation, the rate hike that telecom companies have done for mobile phone calls is very nominal. Currently, the rate for calling is 51 paise per minute which was Rs 3.50 per minute earlier. Similarly, the average cost of 1 GB data for internet usage was Rs 28 earlier which is now Rs 8.75 per GB.
