News Topical, Digital Desk : The Bombay High Court has accepted the appeals filed by the families of the victims of the 2008 Malegaon blasts, challenging the acquittal of all seven accused, including Sadhvi Pragya and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit.
The court has issued notices to the defendants—the National Investigation Agency and the acquitted accused—and has scheduled a hearing in the case after six weeks.
The petition was filed last week
It should be noted that an appeal was filed in the Bombay High Court last week. The appeal claims that a faulty investigation or some flaws in the investigation cannot be grounds for acquitting the accused. It also argues that the bombings were planned secretly and therefore cannot be directly evidenced.
The issue of acquittal of the accused was raised in the petition
The petitioners claimed that the order of the special NIA court acquitting the seven accused on July 31 was erroneous and legally unjustified and hence should be set aside.
Malegaon was shaken 17 years ago
It is noteworthy that on September 29, 2008, an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Malegaon, a town in Maharashtra's Nashik district, about 200 kilometers from Mumbai. Six people were killed in the blast. 101 were injured.
