News Topical, Digital Desk : An Israeli delegation left for Qatar on Sunday to hold talks on a possible hostage-free and ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United States where he is due to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday.
Meanwhile, Hamas said on Friday that it has responded positively to the US-backed Gaza ceasefire proposal. Trump had said that Israel had agreed to the conditions necessary to finalize the 60-day ceasefire. But indicating the potential challenges still facing both sides, a Palestinian official from a Hamas-affiliated group said that concerns remain about humanitarian aid, the route from the Rafah crossing to Egypt and the timing of the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Release will be based on Qatar's proposal
Netanyahu's office has said that the changes sought by Hamas in the ceasefire proposal are not acceptable to Israel. However, the delegation is going to Qatar to continue efforts to ensure the return of our hostages based on the Qatari proposal, which Israel has agreed to. The office said that we were informed last night about the changes Hamas wants in the Qatari proposal and this is not acceptable to Israel.
No further information was given in the case. Netanyahu has repeatedly said that Hamas should be disarmed. Hamas has so far refused to discuss this demand. Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, relatives of the hostages demonstrated near the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv and demanded their return.
