
News Topical, Digital Desk : Violence against minorities is on the rise in Pakistan. Hindu and Christian girls are being targeted. Pakistan's top human rights body said that cases of forced conversion and underage marriage of Hindu and Christian girls have increased in the past year.
Pakistan Human Rights Commission released report
The report 'Streets of Fear: Freedom of Religion or Belief in 2024/25' released by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Tuesday describes it as a very troubling year for religious freedom and minority rights.
Minority members are being lynched by mobs - report
The Commission said there has also been a growing trend of mob lynching of persons accused of blasphemy, particularly of members of minorities. Two persons accused of blasphemy were extrajudicially killed by the police when they were seeking protection from a violent mob.
The report also said that such incidents underline the urgent need to improve law enforcement and accountability mechanisms.
Rise in hate speech
The report also points to a rise in hate speech, ranging from threats against the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to public condemnation of elected representatives. This is happening due to the growing emboldenment of extremist elements. The inclination of bar associations towards alliances with religious extremist groups is shocking.
200 cases of child sexual abuse came to light
Ministry of Home Affairs Pakistan's Home Ministry has informed the Senate that out of 567 cases of sexual abuse registered in Islamabad between 2021 and June 2025, 200 cases involved children. Out of the 200 cases of child sexual abuse registered, 93 victims were boys and 108 were girls.
222 accused were arrested
The ministry said 222 accused were arrested, of whom only 12 were convicted. 163 are still under trial, while 15 have been acquitted and 26 are still absconding.
