
News Topical, Digital Desk : While nature is wreaking havoc in Uttarakhand due to heavy rains and cloudburst, heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh blocked 617 roads including four national highways on Wednesday and educational institutions had to be closed in many districts. Officials said that due to the rain on Tuesday night, there was heavy destruction on the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route, due to which the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra was postponed. Moderate to heavy rains continued in many parts of the state.
How much did it rain?
According to the Meteorological Department, since Tuesday night, Kasauli has received 145 mm of rain, Dharampur 122.8 mm, Gohar 120 mm, Malraon 103.2 mm, Baggi 95.9 mm, Nagarota Surian 93.4 mm, Naina Devi 86.4 mm, Sundernagar 80.3 mm, Kangra 71.4 mm, Bilaspur 70.4 mm, Dhaula Kuan 67 mm, Mandi 65.8 mm, Shimla 64.4 mm and Dharamshala 64 mm of rain. The State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) said that 617 roads including four national highways were blocked on Wednesday, of which 377 roads are in Mandi district and 90 in Kullu district.
Traffic is closed on these highways
Officials said that after the landslide, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-21), Old Hindustan-Tibet Road (NH-5), Mandi-Dharampur (NH-3) and Aut-Sainj Road (NH-305) were closed for vehicular movement. He said that the Shimla-Kalka National Highway which was blocked at Chakki Mor near Koti in Solan district has been opened for vehicular movement. Educational institutions including schools, colleges and Anganwadis remained closed in Sunni, Kumarsain, Chaupal, Dodra Kwar, Jubbal, Theog and Rampur subdivisions of Shimla district, Karsog and Sundarnagar of Mandi district, Nirmand of Kullu district and some subdivisions of Solan district. Many schools in Shimla city have announced holidays or have asked to conduct studies through online medium.
Kinnaur Kailash Yatra postponed
The Kinnaur district administration has suspended the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra after heavy rains caused heavy damage to the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route. According to officials, the bridges at Tanglippi and Kangrang have been washed away due to increased water flow in the rivers. Most of the walking routes have either become dangerously slippery or prone to landslides, posing a serious threat to the safety of pilgrims. The official order said that in view of these adverse conditions, the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra is being temporarily suspended till further notice. The pilgrims currently on the route have been safely accommodated in Milling Khata and Cave and all necessary arrangements have been made for their safety.
