Pawar is accused of creating a fake Aadhaar card in Trump's name and using it to register fake voters.
Pawar called the FIR "funny" and said he was simply highlighting the "flaws" in the Aadhaar card system. He insisted he was not involved in any fraudulent activity.
Rohit Pawar accused of having a fake Aadhaar card
Speaking to reporters in Pune on Thursday, Pawar said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should have called him and asked for details and ordered an investigation into the matter. "But after wasting 15 days, they have just filed a useless FIR."
Pawar demonstrated at a press conference on October 16 how fake Aadhaar cards were being created on a website and used to register fake voters. Dhananjay Vagskar, co-ordinator of the BJP's social media cell, saw the video and filed a complaint.
Mumbai Police registered an FIR
Taking this seriously, Wagskar filed a police complaint against the website's owner, the user, and other unidentified individuals, a police official said. According to the FIR, the complainant claimed the leader committed a fraudulent act that threatened the social security of "an autonomous institution in India."
He alleged that an attempt was made to create misunderstanding and enmity between two groups in society by creating fake Aadhaar cards through a fake website. He said that based on the complaint, the cyber police on Tuesday registered a case against two unidentified persons under sections of the Indian Penal Code for forgery, identity theft, spreading false information and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Pawar pointed out the shortcomings of the Aadhaar system.
Rohit Pawar alleged on October 16 that irregularities like fake voter registrations, deletion of genuine voters and double registration of voters had come to light after the unfavorable results for the BJP-led Mahayuti in the Lok Sabha elections last year. The NCP (SP) leader said that 32 lakh new voters were added between the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which is equivalent to adding 6.5 lakh voters every year or 54,000 voters every month. But 48 lakh voters were added in just six months between the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
He alleged that in his own Karjat Jamkhed assembly constituency in western Maharashtra, 14,292 new voters were added after the Lok Sabha elections, while 5,360 names were deleted. The MLA said that there have been cases where the Aadhaar card of a voter in one constituency was used to register another voter in another constituency, with the photo and name changed. Pawar said, "All the points mentioned in the FIR are useless. Through this, he was only trying to tell the government that there are flaws in the Aadhaar system and that there is some software through which fake Aadhaar cards can be made."
