News Topical, Digital Desk : Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra has been inducted as a cabinet minister in Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's cabinet expansion. He took the oath of office and secrecy at a swearing-in ceremony held on Friday, assuming the responsibility of a ministerial post for the first time. Pradeep Batra's political journey began at the municipal level. He entered politics for the first time in 2007 by winning the Roorkee Municipal Corporation elections. He subsequently established a strong foothold in legislative assembly politics. In 2012, he was elected MLA from Roorkee for the first time on an Indian National Congress ticket.
With changing political dynamics, Batra later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He further strengthened his position by winning the 2017 election on a BJP ticket, and in the 2022 assembly elections, he also won, achieving the distinction of becoming an MLA for the third time. Joining the BJP further strengthened his political position, resulting in his appointment as a cabinet minister. This important responsibility was given to him due to his active involvement in the organization and the region.
Regional balance has been carefully considered in this expansion of the Dhami cabinet. The government has strived to provide representation to both the plains and the hills. Notably, for the first time, Haridwar district has received two cabinet ministers, strengthening regional balance.
The current cabinet includes eight ministers from the Garhwal division and four from the Kumaon division. This expansion marks the first time three MLAs have been appointed as cabinet ministers, while two experienced leaders have been re-inducted. According to political experts, Pradeep Batra's appointment is considered an important step towards strengthening the BJP's social and regional strategy.
