News Topical, Digital Desk : The CBI questioned industrialist Anil Ambani for over seven hours in connection with the Rs 2,929 crore fraud case registered on a complaint by the State Bank of India against Reliance Communications Limited and Anil Ambani.
Meanwhile, Ambani's spokesperson said, "Anil Ambani denies all allegations and will defend himself appropriately." For the second consecutive day on Friday, Anil Ambani arrived at the CBI headquarters in his grey sedan around 10 am and left the office at 5:15 pm, officials said.
What questions did CBI ask Anil?
Ambani was questioned face-to-face and presented with numerous documents. He was questioned about alleged fund diversion, embezzlement, and other irregularities in loan funds issued to the company by the state-owned bank SBI. Ambani was also questioned for nearly eight hours on Thursday in the same matter.
What is the matter?
The CBI filed a case against Ambani in August last year for allegedly defrauding the SBI of ₹2,929 crore, officials said. According to the SBI complaint, the company owed more than ₹40,000 crore to various lenders, with SBI alone facing a loss of ₹2,929 crore, according to 2018 data. The CBI filed a case of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal breach of trust against Ambani and RCom.
