News Topical, Digital Desk : In a significant initiative to promote self-reliance and 'Make in India', the Indian Navy has invited Indian private companies to indigenously develop critical subsystems and test systems for its Russian-origin MiG-29K fighter aircraft.
This initiative by the Indian Navy aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen India's self-reliance on critical aircraft components, ensuring that these fighter aircraft deployed to protect maritime borders remain combat-ready at all times.

The MiG-29K is a state-of-the-art, all-weather, supersonic multi-role fighter aircraft and is the Indian Navy's primary carrier-based strike aircraft. It operates from INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant and focuses on air superiority, maritime strike, and sea control.

The Navy has faced challenges related to maintenance, availability of spare parts, and serviceability. Due to the aircraft's maintenance needs often not being met in a timely manner, the Indian Navy has invited indigenous private companies, MSMEs, and defense firms to strengthen the operational capability and maintenance of the MiG-29K fighter jets.
