News Topical, Digital Desk : Campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, scheduled for April 23rd, is in full swing. The campaigning will subside in about eight days. Meanwhile, TVK has canceled several programs where Vijay was scheduled to directly engage with voters.
Since the election dates were announced on March 15, Vijay has canceled several campaign events despite receiving permission from the Election Commission. The party has not officially disclosed the exact reasons behind these sudden cancellations.
Vijay is contesting from two seats
Vijay, a major talking point in this election, filed his nomination on March 30. He subsequently campaigned in Perambur, where he is contesting, and then in Kolathur.
A program scheduled for Villivakkam was canceled, with TVK citing security lapses by the police. Vijay then campaigned in Tiruchirapalli East, another constituency he is contesting, on April 2nd.
Vijay canceled several programs
Road shows scheduled for April 6 in T. Nagar and Villivakkam were also canceled, with the party citing time constraints. Vijay held a road show in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi on April 8 but canceled the event scheduled for April 9 in Cuddalore. Vijay also canceled meetings scheduled for April 11 in Cuddalore and April 13 in Tiruvallur.
DMK takes a dig at TVK
Vijay's decision to skip several rallies has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, including the ruling DMK. The DMK said Vijay is campaigning from home.
State Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister MK Stalin's son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, also sarcastically said that while some leaders work day and night to connect with the people on the ground, some leaders campaign intermittently.
Strong campaigning by leaders in the state
While prominent leaders like Chief Minister Stalin, AIADMK General Secretary Palaniswami, and NTK chief Seeman are campaigning vigorously across the state, the cancellation of Vijay's rallies has put significant pressure on TVK. Vijay still has several districts to visit before the campaign deadline ends.
