News Topical, Digital Desk : A shocking case has emerged from Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, where a tantrik, under the guise of superstition, brutally assaulted a woman. It is alleged that the woman was first lured into a trap by the use of exorcism and the fear of ghosts, and then repeatedly raped. Furthermore, lakhs of rupees were extorted in the name of treatment.
Victim made by showing fear of ghosts
The case is said to be from the Chopan police station area. The victim is a tribal woman from the Naugarh area of Chandauli district. According to the woman, when her health deteriorated, her relatives took her to Tasleem, a tantrik from Salkhan. There, the accused told her that she was possessed by a ghost and would need to visit him regularly for treatment.
The victim alleges that in October 2023, the tantrik summoned her to a religious site and pressured her to return every 15 days. During this time, in December 2023, she was raped for the first time under threat and intimidation. The accused then continued to threaten and assault her repeatedly.
The woman said the accused threatened to possess her husband with a demon. Due to this fear, she was unable to resist. She was also extorted approximately 215,000 rupees in the name of exorcism.
The most shocking thing is that even after the woman's husband died in October 2024, the accused did not leave her. He continued to threaten her, demand money, and exploit her.
Court takes strict stand, police investigation begins
Considering the seriousness of the case, the court of Special Judge of the SC/ST Act, Abid Shamim, has ordered the Chopan police station to register an FIR and has also directed an investigation by an officer of the Circle Officer level.
The police have now begun investigating the entire matter. This incident has once again raised serious questions about crimes committed in the name of superstition.
