News Topical, Digital Desk : Election campaigning is in full swing in Tamil Nadu, but the rising heat has forced candidates to adjust their campaign strategies. To avoid the intense heat, candidates are using their daily routines to reach out to voters. Temperatures in Tamil Nadu have reached close to 40 degrees Celsius.
In districts like Tiruchi and Madurai, election campaigns are now running on a staggered schedule: activities begin early in the morning, pause during the intense afternoon heat, and resume only after sunset.
What used to be a nonstop day of rallies and door-to-door canvassing has now become a series of carefully timed events aimed at minimizing exposure to the heat.
Party workers taking extra precautions
Party workers on the ground are taking extra precautions. Caps, scarves, and drinking water are being distributed widely among supporters, while leaders are repeatedly urging people to stay hydrated during their interactions. Election campaigns continue in crowded areas and markets, but their pace and duration have clearly been altered.
The heat is having an impact on the election campaign.
The effects of the harsh weather are already being felt. In a recent incident in Thanjavur, AIADMK candidate Elamathi Subramaniam reportedly fainted while campaigning; this incident highlighted the strain on the body from prolonged exposure to high temperatures. This incident has served as a warning, prompting candidates from all parties to adopt even more stringent safety measures.
Older people should be cautious
A senior DMK leader, over 75, said he has made significant changes to his daily routine; he begins his election campaign at 7 a.m. and finishes before dawn. He avoids hot beverages like tea and coffee, preferring to drink juice instead to stay hydrated.
The leader also said that although election expenditure rules impose restrictions on serving refreshments to people at large gatherings, party workers have been advised to carry drinking water and essential items with them.
The campaign begins again with the decrease in temperature.
Election campaigning resumes only after 3:30 pm, when temperatures begin to cool slightly. Despite the challenges posed by the heat wave, the campaign's enthusiasm and intensity remain undiminished.
Political parties are continuing their campaigns with full force, striking the right balance between connecting with voters and observing health precautions. As polling day approaches, the battle for votes is becoming a tough test of endurance for both political rivals and the scorching summer sun.
