News Topical, Digital Desk : Two very large crude carriers loaded with Iranian oil have arrived at Indian ports. Refiners are taking advantage of a temporary waiver granted by the United States last month to resume buying oil from Tehran for the first time in seven years.

According to a Reuters report, the Iranian-flagged ship "Felicity" has arrived at the port of Sikka in western India, while the Curacao-flagged ship "Jaya" is at the eastern port of Odisha. India, the world's third-largest oil importer and consumer, has not received any oil shipments from Iran since May 2019. This is due to pressure from the United States to stop purchasing Iranian crude oil.

India buys Iranian oil

Reuters reported last week that Indian Oil Corp, the country's largest refiner, had purchased Iranian oil from the Jaya ship, which is subject to US sanctions.

Reliance will buy the oil of these ships

India has also allowed Reliance Industries Ltd., which operates the world's largest refining complex, to purchase Iranian oil loaded on the Comoros-flagged Aframax vessel "Kaviz," the Curaçao-flagged VLCC "Lenore," and the Iran-flagged ships "Felicity" and "Hedi." All of these vessels are more than 20 years old and subject to US sanctions.
