News Topical, Digital Desk : A case has been registered against seven people, including the woman's husband and her mother-in-law, for allegedly killing two unborn babies by kicking his wife twice in the stomach after his demand for Rs 10 lakh dowry was not met in Bhadohi district, police said on Sunday.

Based on a complaint filed by Aradhana Shukla (29) at a public hearing on Saturday, a case was registered against her husband Abhinesh Shukla, mother-in-law Geeta Devi and brother-in-law Pradeep Shukla under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act at the Gopiganj police station in the district, a senior police officer said.

She was being harassed at her in-laws' house for Rs 10 lakh

Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Tyagi, citing the report, said that Aradhana Shukla, a resident of Gudripur in the Gopiganj police station area, was married to Abhinesh Shukla, a resident of Bhanupur Siarha village in the same police station area, on May 21, 2022.
He said that despite Aradhana receiving a substantial dowry at the time of marriage, her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law began demanding an additional ₹10 lakh, and when this demand was not met, they constantly harassed her.

Husband kicked pregnant woman in the stomach

Tyagi said that it is alleged that when Aradhana was eight months pregnant, her husband kicked her in the stomach several times for not paying him 10 lakh rupees and, seeing her condition deteriorating, sent her to her parents' home. He said that Aradhana was admitted to the hospital, but her eight-month-old baby died in the womb.

The accused assaulted her again demanding dowry

Tyagi said that after being persuaded by some relatives, Abhinesh Shukla moved her to Delhi, where his mother and brother-in-law also lived. He added that in July 2025, when Aradhana became two months pregnant, she was again severely beaten and beaten on September 20, 2025, demanding 10 lakh rupees. During this, her husband once again kicked her in the stomach.

The SP said that despite Aradhana's condition deteriorating, Abhinesh brought her to Bhadohi on a motorcycle the same day and on the late evening of September 21, 2025, when he found her alone again at the Gyanpur Road railway station in the district, he beat her badly and left his wife drenched in blood, threatening that if he returned without taking Rs 10 lakh, he would be burnt to death.

According to Tyagi, in the case registered, Aradhana has said that she informed her parents, then they admitted her to a hospital and for the second time also her two-month old foetus died.

Police registered a case and started searching for the accused.

The police officer stated that the woman alleged that in January of this year, she had requested the women's police station and the Gopiganj police station to register a case, but no action was taken, after which she complained to them. Tyagi stated that a case has been registered and the accused are being searched for.
