News Topical, Digital Desk : In Lachhapur village, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, following a family dispute, the brother-in-law killed his sister-in-law, Poonam Patel (30), by hitting her on the neck with an axe. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident, and the accused, Amarjeet Patel, was taken into custody.

Poonam Patel, wife of Sujit Patel, a resident of Lachhapur village under the Mirzamurad police station, was sitting outside her house after cooking. Meanwhile, her brother-in-law, Ajit, arrived with an axe and stabbed her directly in the neck. After the incident, Amarjeet called the people nearby and personally informed the police on 112. Upon receiving the information, Mirzamurad police station in-charge Pramod Pandey arrived at the scene, where the accused youth was sitting with an axe near the body. Police immediately arrested him.

The deceased's husband, Sujit, works as an electronics engineer for the railways at Varanasi Cantt. Poonam's mother-in-law, Munka Devi, and father-in-law, Tej Bahadur, were in the fields at the time of the incident, while the deceased's only son, Harsh (4), had gone to school. Upon receiving information about the incident, Sujit and his son, Harsh, returned home. It is said that Ajit was insistent on marrying his sister-in-law's sister, while the sister-in-law and her family were not ready for this relationship.

There had been several disputes over this issue in the past. A month ago, based on Poonam's complaint, the Mirzamurad police issued a challan against Ajit for disturbing the peace. Following the incident, a large crowd of hundreds of men and women gathered outside the house. Local residents are outraged by the incident. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have launched an investigation. This incident has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety throughout the village. 

This incident has highlighted the seriousness of tensions and conflicts within family relationships. Such incidents have become a cause for concern in society, and awareness needs to be raised. The police administration has also taken prompt action in this case, restoring some degree of confidence among the local population.
