News Topical, Digital Desk : Eight people have died after drinking contaminated water in Indore, the country's cleanest city and a Water Plus (wastewater management) award. The incident occurred in the Bhagirathpura area. Residents had been complaining about the supply of contaminated water for several days.

The severity of the situation became apparent on Monday when more than 100 people went to the hospital with vomiting and diarrhea. Eight people have died as of Tuesday.

Most of the houses have patients suffering from vomiting and diarrhea.

The negligence of officials is so severe that the first death from vomiting and diarrhea occurred in the area on December 26th, yet those in charge remained unfazed. Of the approximately 100 people who arrived at the hospital on Monday, the condition of 34 was so severe that they were admitted. A large part of Bhagirathpura falls within the Indore-1 constituency of the state's Urban Development and Housing Minister, Kailash Vijayvargiya.

On Tuesday, health department teams conducted a survey in the Bhagirathpura area. They found that most households were suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. Also on Tuesday, a municipal corporation team inspected the area's water distribution lines to determine the cause of the contaminated water.

It turned out that the public toilet was located directly above the main water supply line that supplied the entire Bhagirathapura area. Due to a ruptured main line, drainage was flowing directly into the water supply system and into the residents' homes.

Additionally, damage to drinking water distribution lines was found at several other locations in the area. Currently, the Narmada River water supply has been suspended throughout Bhagirathpura, and arrangements have been made to distribute water through tankers. On Monday evening, Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava visited hospitals to check on patients.
