A strong earthquake struck the coast of Cebu City at around 10 pm on Tuesday, causing several buildings to collapse.
60 people died
San Remigio City Mayor Alfie Raines confirmed the devastation caused by the earthquake. Speaking to the media, he said 60 people had died, 21 of them in Cebu province alone.
No tsunami warning
According to the New York Times, approximately 37 people were injured in a building collapse in the Philippines due to the earthquake. However, no tsunami warning has been issued in the Philippines.
The Philippines Seismology Agency said the quake could cause changes in currents and sea levels. People were warned to stay away from beaches, but the alert was canceled three hours later.
