News Topical, Digital Desk : The festival of Diwali is an important part of Indian culture, celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. The United Nations organization UNESCO has included it in its Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

UNESCO held a meeting at the Red Fort in Delhi, during which UNESCO decided to include Diwali in its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

This is a proud moment for India. This is the first time the country has hosted a UNESCO meeting. Diwali, a cultural symbol of India, has now become a part of UNESCO.

PM Modi congratulated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his happiness by sharing a post on the social media platform X. PM Modi wrote in the post,

There is tremendous enthusiasm among people across the country and the world. Diwali is deeply rooted in our culture and values. It is the soul of our civilization. It symbolizes knowledge and religion. By becoming a part of UNESCO's Intangible Heritage List, Diwali will gain even greater popularity worldwide. I hope that the ideals of Lord Shri Ram continue to guide us in this eternal way.

Conch blowing took place in Delhi

This UNESCO meeting will run from December 8 to December 13. As soon as UNESCO amended the ICH list and included Diwali, chants of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata ki Jai resonated everywhere.

15 heritage sites of India included

It should be noted that UNESCO has so far included 15 Indian cultural heritage sites on its Intangible Cultural List. This list includes the Kumbh Mela, Bengal's Durga Puja, Gujarat's Garba, yoga, Ramlila, and the chanting of Vedic mantras. Traditional performances of the Ramayana have also been included in this list.
