News Topical, Digital Desk : Violence broke out in Gopalganj, the hometown of Bangladesh's founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Wednesday, leaving four people dead. The incident took place during a rally of the student-led National Citizen Party (NCP). Sheikh Mujibur, popularly known as Mujib, is the daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Last year, a violent student-led agitation took place in July-August, which led to the ouster of the Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5. The student leaders who led the agitation had formed a political party called NCP in February last.
Hundreds of Hasina's supporters clashed with the police
According to local media, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's hometown turned into a battleground when hundreds of Hasina's supporters clashed with police. Four people were killed. Their bodies were sent to Gopalganj General Hospital, where doctors said they had sustained bullet injuries, while nine others are being treated at the hospital who have sustained bullet injuries.
The office of interim government chief Mohammad Yunus said a curfew has been imposed in Gopalganj and the criminals who attacked the NCP would not be allowed to escape punishment.
Yunus said in a post on Twitter that NCP members, police and media were attacked during a peaceful rally. He blamed Hasina's Awami League and its student wing for the violence.
Protesters clashed with police and security forces
According to media reports and eyewitnesses, protesters armed with sticks and bricks clashed with police and security forces. Several vehicles were damaged and the NCP rally was attacked.
NCP coordinator said this
As a result, the police had to open fire. NCP convenor Nahid Islam said that his rally was attacked. If justice is not served, his party will itself come forward to liberate Gopalganj from Mujibism.
