News Topical, Digital Desk : Questions have once again arisen about women's safety at Anna University in Chennai. A final-year student has accused G. Ganavel Babu, a senior professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering, of sexual harassment over the past three years.

The student filed a complaint at the Police Commissioner's office stating that the professor used to send her obscene messages, call her late at night and have inappropriate conversations with her and also harass her in person.

The victim said the professor, under the pretense of helping her with an internship in her second year, gained her trust and then began harassing her. She alleged he pressured her to meet him outside, leaving her terrified.

The student blocked the professor on her phone and social media, but he maintained contact with her through her friends. She also alleges that the professor has harassed other female students and that complaints have been filed against him in the past.

Following the incident on Friday, a large group of students staged a massive protest on the Anna University campus, demanding immediate action against the professor and improved security on campus.

The protesters alleged that complaints had been filed against the professor over the past two years, but no concrete action was taken. Police acted swiftly and arrested Professor Ganavel Babu.
