After the accident, aircraft manufacturing company Boeing once again became a topic of discussion. The world's largest aerospace company Boeing will celebrate its 109th anniversary on July 15, 2025.
If we talk about the status of the company in the aerospace sector, then it has more than 10 thousand commercial planes running all over the world. Boeing's maximum 39 percent income comes from defense, space and security. Apart from this, 32 percent income is earned through commercial planes. In such a situation, let's know about the history of Boeing company and how has been its journey so far?
Start of Boeing Company
Boeing began 109 years ago when the Wright Brothers first flew in 1903 and American businessman William E. Boeing thought of starting a company that manufactured airplanes. After this, in 1916 he started a company named Aero Products, which was renamed Boeing Airplane Company a year later.
An order to make 50 planes was received during the World War
In 1917, the company designed its first plane, but it was far behind in terms of the technology of planes of that time. World War I had also started during this period. Planes were also needed for the war, so the company got an order to make 50 planes. This was the time when Boeing Company's fortunes changed and the company planned expansion.
The company started making commercial planes
After the First World War, Boeing started making commercial planes and with time the company continued to expand. This can be gauged from the fact that Boeing has taken over more than 32 companies so far.
Boeing's 7-7 formula
- In 1945, the commercial plane was named Boeing 700
- The marketing team did not like the name
- Then it was changed to Boeing 707
- Names started being kept on the formula of starting with 7 and ending with 7
- This is how the 7-7 formula came into practice
Name also associated with controversies
On one hand, while Boeing Company kept climbing the ladder of success, on the other hand, controversies also kept getting associated with it. Many Boeing planes became victims of accidents in the world. This raised questions on the credibility of the company, but the company kept getting rid of controversies in the name of removing the shortcomings. Boeing's 737 plane was most controversial. 346 people died in plane accidents in Indonesia in 2018 and in Ethiopia in 2019. After this, 737 Max planes could not fly for about 20 months.
