News Topical, Digital Desk : The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBE) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited have launched a unique campaign to clean up the city. Instead of collecting garbage, it's being thrown door-to-door. You might be wondering what kind of clean-up campaign is this, where garbage is being thrown away.

In fact, the GBA has launched a "Garbage Dumping Festival" to keep the city clean. Under this campaign, those who litter the city, i.e., by throwing garbage on the streets, have been warned. If you throw garbage on the street, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will return it to your home.

What did the officer say?

According to an NDTV report, Karigouda, CEO of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), said, "In Bengaluru, we have about 5,000 autos that collect dry and wet waste from homes. Despite this, some people still throw garbage on the streets. CCTV cameras have also been installed to monitor those throwing garbage on the streets." He said this is a return gift to raise awareness about not throwing garbage on the streets.

2,000 fine for garbage

Chief Executive Officer Karigowda said that in addition to returning the garbage, a fine of ₹2,000 will also be imposed. People on social media are calling this initiative by the Greater Bengaluru Authority and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited strange. Karigowda said, "This is not a strange activity. Our workers are going door-to-door and educating people about waste segregation. We are spreading awareness on social media and urging people not to throw garbage on the streets."

While some people agree with the municipal corporation's decision, others are also expressing displeasure. They fear the garbage might be dumped back at their doorsteps. When asked about the unavailability of garbage collectors in some areas, Karigouda said that larger bins are being installed where garbage can be dumped.
