News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Thursday said that envisioning, anticipating and preparing for future conflicts is existential for the Army and is not optional.
In his special address at the session titled "Future Warfare: Strategic Positioning through Military Power" on the first day of the "Chanakya Defence Dialogue" organised by the Army here, General Chauhan said that knowing your enemy is becoming increasingly important in the context of warfare. Traditional practices are changing, increasing the complexities of military operations.
Regarding the nuclear issue, the CDS said that today this special stability is weakening. He said, “Major powers are modernizing their arsenals. Long-standing treaties are weakening. Some countries are now indicating their acceptance of nuclear weapons.”
He said this in the context of Russia's nuclear-powered systems, China's expansion of its nuclear weapons stockpile and US President Trump's announcement about nuclear testing.
Army Chief presents roadmap to future-ready force
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Thursday that the world has moved from the bipolar state of the Cold War to a unipolar one for a while and has now entered an uncertain one. He underlined that long-standing peace is eroding and widespread conflicts are increasing. The Army Chief also presented a roadmap for preparing the force for the future.
In his address at the inaugural session of the 'Chanakya Defence Dialogue', General Dwivedi outlined measures to strengthen the Army. These will drive the transformation of the force in the coming years to ensure it remains decisive and future-ready in the rapidly changing global landscape.
He emphasized that we live in turbulent times, with over 50 ongoing conflicts around the world. Such circumstances pose a fundamental question: how should the Indian Army transform to remain decisive and prepared in this rapidly evolving global environment.
