News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia and supply disruptions, the government has taken a significant decision. To provide relief to domestic industries, the government has completely waived customs duties on certain essential petrochemical products.

According to the government, this exemption will remain in effect until June 30, 2026. Its purpose is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential raw materials to the country. The government stated that this step was taken in response to global supply chain disruptions and rising costs, in order to reduce pressure on industries.

Which sectors will benefit?

This decision will directly benefit several industries, including plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and auto parts. The government believes this will reduce production costs and streamline the supply chain. This could also impact the public, as prices for final products may be reduced.

The petrochemical products exempted by the government include anhydrous ammonia, methanol, toluene, styrene, vinyl chloride monomer, monoethylene glycol (MEG), phenol, acetic acid, and PTA. Also included in the exemption are several polymers, including polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, PVC, PET chips, and engineering plastics like ABS.

Looking ahead to the situation

The government has also stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and may take further action if necessary. This decision has been taken as a temporary relief to provide stability to industries and minimize the impact on production in the current global situation.
