World AIDS Day 2024:  World AIDS Day is celebrated every year on 1 December. The main goal of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and inspire people to eliminate all the myths related to this serious disease (World AIDS Day Significance). What is HIV/AIDS?

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that weakens the body's immunity . AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is the last stage of HIV infection. When HIV enters the body, it starts destroying T-cells. T-cells are an important part of the body's immune system. When the number of T-cells decreases significantly, the body becomes unable to fight even a minor infection. Due to which the person dies due to that disease.

 

Symptoms of HIV infection

There are often no symptoms in the early stages of HIV infection. Some people may have mild flu-like symptoms, such as fever, sore throat, fatigue, pneumonia, herpes, yeast infections in the mouth, and swollen glands. However, these symptoms disappear after a few weeks.

When HIV infection reaches the stage of AIDS, such symptoms may appear-

  • Constant fatigue

  • Repeated use of the same injection
  • From an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy, delivery, or through breastfeeding

What is the treatment for AIDS?

There is no cure for AIDS, but efforts are made to manage it through antiretroviral drugs. Through this, efforts are made to make the life of the patient easier.
