News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath , while addressing the House on the fourth day of the monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday (August 14), presented a detailed account of his government's achievements in the energy sector of the state. He compared the tenure of opposition parties from 1947 to 2017 with his tenure of eight and a half years (2017-2025) and highlighted the revolutionary changes in the energy sector. 

The Chief Minister said that from 1947 to 2017, the power sector struggled with limited capacity and irregular supply. Where the total generation capacity was only 12,000 MW. This industry was inadequate to meet the needs of agriculture and domestic consumption, especially in rural areas where irrigation, education and small industries were affected due to lack of electricity.

From 2017 to 2025, the Yogi government made remarkable progress in the energy sector. The Chief Minister said that the power generation capacity increased by 8000 MW, due to which the total capacity has now increased to more than 20000 MW. In 2016-17, the peak demand for electricity was 16,000 MW. Now it has increased to 33,000 MW and the government is successfully meeting this more than doubled demand.

2.50 lakh hamlets were electrified by June 2025- CM Yogi

He said that there has been unprecedented improvement in rural electrification, where 2.50 lakh mazras were electrified by June 2025 as against 1.28 lakh mazras in 2017. There has also been improvement in power supply time, with 24 hours supply being ensured in district headquarters, 21 hours in tehsil headquarters and 18 hours in rural areas. Apart from this, 3 new 765 kV transmission substations, 21 new 400 kV substations, 72 new 220 kV stations and 99 new 132 kV substations were established in the last eight years to strengthen the power infrastructure. These improvements made the power distribution network reliable.

The cost of farming has reduced and productivity has increased- CM Yogi

The Chief Minister said that Uttar Pradesh is now among the leading states in the country that provide the maximum electricity to its farmers, which has reduced the cost of farming and increased productivity. Along with this, the standard of living of businessmen associated with micro, small and medium enterprises has improved. This change is not limited to urban industries but has reached rural farmers, students, small shopkeepers and domestic consumers. CM Yogi stressed that his government is committed to further reforms in the energy sector, which will be a major factor in the overall development of the state.
