Theatre owners of West Bengal will have to do this work
According to a report by NDTV, the West Bengal government on Wednesday made it mandatory for all cinema halls in the state to screen regional films during prime time. Prime time is from 3 pm to 9 pm, when the maximum audience comes to the theatre. The government has asked for this order to be implemented with immediate effect.
According to a letter from the West Bengal government, it is mandatory to screen Bengali films throughout the year in prime time show screenings on every screen of every cinema hall and in all the multiplexes in the state for 365 days. The government has ordered to screen one Bengali film in theatres for all 365 days of the year.
Exposure of Bengali films will increase
The note clearly states that multiplexes and single theatres must reserve a prime time slot for Bengali films every day. The official further added in the statement, "This decision has been taken by the state government for a long time to promote regional cinema. They want to ensure that Bengali cinema gets the exposure it needs as well as commercial opportunities in its own state".
