Election Commission's response
The Election Commission said that it will respond in writing with full facts to the allegations made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the number of voters in Maharashtra being more than the total population of the state. Soon after Rahul made the allegations in the press conference, the Election Commission said in a post on the social media platform 'X', "The Election Commission of India (ECI) considers political parties as priority parties, of course the voters are paramount and attaches great importance to the ideas, suggestions, questions coming from political parties. "
"The Commission will respond in writing following due factual and procedural process as is followed uniformly throughout the country," the commission said, without naming Gandhi or referring to his allegations.
39 lakh new voters were added in 5 months- Rahul
The Congress leader claimed that as per government data, the adult population of Maharashtra is 9.54 crore, while the state has 9.7 crore voters. He alleged that Maharashtra has more voters than the total population of the state. Gandhi alleged that 39 lakh voters were added in Maharashtra in five months after the Lok Sabha elections, while 32 lakh voters were added in the last five years.
