Bangladesh's interim government is creating hurdles in India's fencing of the border. Now India has said in clear words that it wants positive relations with Bangladesh. The Indian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it is India's commitment to ensure a crime-free Bangladesh border. India's approach with Bangladesh has been positive.
We clarified the situation on fencing
Regarding the border fencing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that New Delhi expects Dhaka to adopt a cooperative approach based on all the earlier agreements in this regard. We have made our position very clear. We had summoned the acting and deputy acting High Commissioner and made our position clear regarding the border fencing.
India is committed to making the border secure
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that India is committed to installing lighting, technical equipment and cattle fencing to prevent criminal activities, smuggling and human trafficking along the border. The purpose of fencing is to secure the border. It is expected that Bangladesh will adopt a cooperative approach in dealing with these crimes.
India wants positive relations
The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said that as far as India-Bangladesh relations are concerned, we have clarified our stand many times. Our Foreign Secretary had said in a meeting with the head of the interim government of Bangladesh that we want positive relations. We want India-Bangladesh relations to be good for the people of both countries. So our attitude is positive and it will remain so.
Foreign Secretary visited Bangladesh
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Bangladesh in December last year. During this time he also met the head of the interim government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Advisor Mohammad Tauhid Hussain. Then Misri mentioned India's strong support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh.
He had also said that India is committed to building positive and constructive relations with Bangladesh based on mutual trust, respect and sensitivity to each other's concerns and interests.
Bangladesh had objected to the fencing
Let us tell you that last week, Bangladesh's acting High Commissioner in India Mohammad Nurul Islam was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs. India told the Bangladesh ambassador that New Delhi has followed all protocols and agreements regarding security measures on the border. This also includes fencing.
A day before the summons was issued to the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry had summoned the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Verma. During this, Bangladesh had objected to the recent fencing on the India-Bangladesh border.
