Bengaluru. A Bengaluru court on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa under the POCSO Act. The CID's SIT in Karnataka had first approached the fast track court for an arrest warrant after Yeddyurappa did not appear to answer questions on Wednesday. Yeddyurappa has sought some time to join the investigation.
What are the allegations against Yediyurappa?
A person close to the 81-year-old BJP leader said he is currently in Delhi and will join the investigation after returning. According to the police, a case has been registered against Yeddyurappa, a member of the BJP parliamentary party, under the POCSO Act and Section 354A (sexual harassment) of the IPC. The mother of a 17-year-old girl had filed a complaint against Yeddyurappa, accusing him of sexually assaulting her daughter.
Demand for arrest and interrogation of Yeddyurappa
The mother said that the incident took place in February this year at the BJP leader's residence in Dollar Colony, Bengaluru. The victim's brother filed a petition in the court last week alleging that the case was registered on March 14, but there has been no progress in the investigation. The petitioner has demanded the arrest and interrogation of Yeddyurappa. After the case was registered, state DGP Alok Mohan handed over the case to the CID in April.
Yeddyurappa denies the allegations
At the same time, Yeddyurappa denied the allegations and said that he will fight a legal battle in the case. He has also filed a petition to cancel the case and stop the investigation. Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister and Congress leader G. Parameshwara has said that former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has been charged under POCSO by the CID in the case of sexual abuse of a minor girl. Also, a notice has been sent to him to appear for questioning. If needed, he can also be arrested.
Karnataka government in action
A chargesheet will be filed against him by June 15. His statement will be recorded and he will be produced before the court. These are all legal procedures and the department will follow them. The CID had collected Yeddyurappa's voice sample after summoning him in April. The government has appointed SPP Ashok H. Nayak from the CID in this case.
