Manipur Violence. The situation in Manipur is tense. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, NSA Ajit Doval and many other officials had a high-level meeting on Monday regarding the situation in the state.

Many MLAs were absent from the CM's meeting

Chief Minister Biren Singh called a meeting of NDA MLAs at his residence yesterday (Monday) to discuss the situation in the state. Interestingly, according to sources in the Chief Minister's Office, 11 out of 38 MLAs did not attend the meeting without citing any reason.

Several resolutions were passed in this meeting. Among them was a demand for the Centre to review the need to re-implement the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur. Apart from this, a demand was also made to launch a massive operation within seven days against the Kuki militants allegedly responsible for the Jiribam massacre.

Meitei organization gave ultimatum

Meanwhile, a prominent body of Meitei civil society organisations rejected the resolutions passed in the meeting of NDA legislators. At the same time, the Meitei organisation called for taking concrete steps against the Kuki militants.

A new phase of violence has begun in Manipur

Let us tell you that since last year, ethnic violence has erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Earlier this month, six people, including women and children, were killed in Jibarbam. After this incident, a new round of violence started in the state.

Assam seals Manipur border

According to information, Assam has sealed its borders with Manipur. The Assam government fears that the flames of violence may spread to their state as well. Assam Police has deployed commandos on the state border and said that they have received information about 'bad elements' trying to cross the border.

Resignation is being sought from CM Biren Singh

At the same time, the demand for resignation of N Biren Singh in Manipur has also intensified. Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader M Chidambaram has demanded his resignation. At the same time, NDA ally National People's Party has withdrawn support from the BJP government in Manipur.

The Conrad Sangma-led party has said that it may reconsider its stand if there is a change in leadership in the state.

Meitei organizations gave ultimatum to the state government

Khuraijam Athauba, spokesperson of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity, a student wing of Meitei organisations, said they have resolved to launch a massive operation against the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of six innocent women and children in Jiribam.

However, "We are saying that the crime has happened not only in Jiribam but also in many other places in Manipur since May 2023. The people of Manipur have demanded the state government and MLAs to fix the responsibility of all SoO groups and launch a campaign against them."

"Our position is very clear. We want the government to review this proposal within the next 24 hours and come up with a better proposal," said a spokesperson of the Coordination Committee on Integrity, a students' union.
