Big success for Assam police

Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh said that the STF along with Kokrajhar Police made these arrests in Nampara area on Tuesday night. These arrests have been made under Operation Praghat. Assam Police had earlier arrested eight suspected terrorists including a Bangladeshi on the midnight of 17 December.

Trying to create a terrorist network

Harmeet Singh said that they were planning to create a big terrorist network, but their first attempt failed after our successful operation. We are working with many state and central agencies to investigate this case. More information will be revealed in the coming days.

Asked if the network was activated after the political upheaval in Bangladesh earlier this year, Singh said a citizen of another country had entered India in November to activate the sleeper cell network. He has been arrested in Kerala. The entire module is being traced. The module is being analysed.

The intentions were very dangerous

The STF team has recovered four handmade rifles which look like AK-47 from the arrested terrorists. A large quantity of ammunition has also been recovered, which indicates that they were practising firing. He said that along with the IED, a handmade grenade, a circuit of detonator, 14 electronic switches, three iron cases used in making IED and 20 iron pieces and plates to cause maximum damage have also been seized. Apart from this, a large number of switches, wires and other items have been recovered along with explosives used in firecrackers.
