Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday. Here he dedicated INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vagsheer to the nation. The PM was given a guard of honor upon reaching Mumbai.

 

On this occasion, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said that 'these three platforms will make the capabilities of the Indian Navy strong and effective, which will further strengthen the security of our maritime interests.'

 

All three platforms are Made in India

On this special occasion, PM Modi addressed the people present there. He said that 'Today is a big day for the glorious history of India's maritime heritage, the Navy and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

PM said, 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj gave new strength and vision to the Navy. Today, on his holy land, we are taking a big step towards strengthening the 21st century Navy. This is the first time that a destroyer, a frigate and a submarine are being commissioned together. It is a matter of pride that all three are Made in India.'

 

The PM said that 'It is one of the priorities of the country that the military capability of 21st century India should be more capable and modern. Be it water, land, sky, deep sea or infinite space, India is protecting its interests everywhere. Continuous reforms are being done for this.'

 

All three platforms are very special

  • INS Surat is one of the largest and best destroyers in the world. It is the fourth warship of the P15B guided missile destroyer project. 75 percent indigenous material has been used in it.
  • INS Nilgiri is the first warship of the 17A Stealth Frigate Project. It has been designed with long-term seaworthiness and stealth capabilities. It has been designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau.
  • INS Vagsheer is the sixth Scorpene submarine to be built under the ongoing Project P-75, a ship-submarine construction project to enhance the Navy's maritime fleet.
