More than 100 foreigners have been hanged in Saudi Arabia this year . News agency AFP has given this information quoting a human rights organization. This figure is almost three times more than in the last three years.

On Saturday, a Yemeni national was hanged in the southwestern region of Najran for drug trafficking, bringing the total number of foreigners sentenced to death this year to 101.

Saudi Arabia has sentenced 34 foreign nationals to death in the years 2022 and 2023. Taha al-Hajji, legal director of the European-Saudi Organization for Human Rights, ESOHR, said that this is the first time Saudi Arabia has executed so many foreigners in a year.

Saudi Arabia ranks third in the number of executions

According to Amnesty International, Saudi Arabia ranks third in the number of executions after China and Iran.

Citizens of these countries were given death sentence

The foreign nationals who were hanged include citizens of Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Nigeria, Egypt, Jordan and Ethiopia. 21 are from Pakistan, 20 from Yemen, 14 from Syria, 10 from Nigeria, nine from Egypt, eight from Jordan and seven from Ethiopia. Three each were hanged from Sudan, India and Afghanistan and one each from Sri Lanka, Eritrea and the Philippines.

Diplomats and activists say foreign defendants do not receive fair trials. Convicted foreign nationals fall prey to big drug dealers. From the time of arrest to execution, the accused face a lot of difficulties in presenting their case before the court.
