Biden said – the world has lost an extraordinary leader

He was the longest-living president in American history. President Joe Biden condoled his death, saying in a statement, "Today, America and the world have lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian."

Jimmy had 25 grandchildren

Carter is survived by his children Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife Roslyn and a grandson have preceded him in death.

Carter was known for doing welfare work

A year after leaving the post of President, he founded a charity named 'Carter Center'. This charity played an important role in bringing transparency in elections, supporting human rights, strengthening health services.

There is a village in India named after Jimmy

  • According to the Carter Center, on January 3, 1978, Carter and then-First Lady Rosalynn Carter visited the village of Daulatpur Nasirabad, an hour southwest of New Delhi.
  • He was the third US president to visit India and the only one to have personally connected with the country. His mother, Lillian, worked here as a health volunteer with the Peace Corps in the late 1960s.
  • The visit was so successful that soon after, the residents of the village named the area 'Carterpuri' after him.
  • When Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, the village celebrated and January 3 was declared a holiday.

What did son Chip Carter say?

Jimmy's son Chip Carter said, "My father was a hero, not just to me but to all who believe in peace, human rights and selfless love. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live out these shared beliefs."
