Kidney is one of the important organs of our body. It performs many important functions in the body. Kidney has many functions, out of which cleaning the blood, removing toxins from the body and filtering extra fluids are the main functions. Apart from this, kidneys also help in controlling blood pressure, balancing electrolytes, producing red blood cells and making bones healthy.
However, sometimes the problem of high blood pressure can also be dangerous for the kidneys. This is not what we say, this is what researchers from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria say. Researchers found in their research that due to hypertension (silent high blood pressure), special cells (podocytes) present in the kidney can be damaged.
The most important thing is that these do not even show any symptoms and they damage the kidneys, even if you do not have any disease like diabetes. Researchers Rainer Oberbauer and Heinz Regele said that if the problem of high blood pressure (high blood pressure risks) is identified in time, then it can be treated. This can also prevent the kidney from getting damaged.
What does this study say?
This study has been published in a medical journal named 'Hypertension'. In this, kidney tissue of 99 patients was surveyed, some of whom had high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, while some were completely healthy. Researchers have analyzed the kidney tissues of these patients using special imaging techniques and computers.
Use of deep-learning algorithms
Under this, the structure and density of podocytes and glomeruli were measured. In this process, artificial intelligence (AI) based deep-learning algorithms were used, which automatically analyzed the digital sections of the tissue and understood the microscopic structure of the kidney.
The number of podocytes remained low
Christopher Paschen, the lead author of the study, said that the number of podocytes was found to be very low in patients with high BP, while the size of the cell nucleus of their cells was increased. They also did not have any disease like type 2 diabetes. This clearly shows that high BP itself is capable of damaging the kidneys.
No symptoms are visible
He said that this damage starts much earlier, before the patient even feels any symptoms. He also said that the job of the kidney is to remove toxins (dirt) and excess water from the body. When blood pressure increases, there is pressure on the small blood vessels of the kidney, due to which the kidney is unable to function properly. Due to high BP for a long time, the kidney gradually becomes weak. This also increases the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
This is how to control high BP (Kidney Health Tips)
- Monitor blood pressure regularly. If you have high BP, it is very important to keep it under control.
- High BP can be controlled by taking a balanced diet, eating less salt, regular exercise and avoiding stress.
- If anyone in the family has had kidney related problems, then kidney should be checked from time to time.
- If high blood pressure persists for a long time then definitely consult a doctor.
