Five more people died on Sunday due to floods in Meghalaya's South Garo Hills region, taking the total number of deaths due to floods in the last two days to 15.
While a father and his son were swept away by floodwaters while crossing a road under the Dimapara bridge in West Garo Hills district, a woman and her daughter died in a landslide at Gongdop village in East Garo Hills, the official said.
Seven members of the same family died
One person died when a tree fell on his vehicle in Songsak Reserve Forest in East Garo Hills district. On Saturday, 10 people, including seven from a family, were killed in a landslide triggered by floods. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has also ordered ex-gratia compensation to the relatives of the deceased.
