In a major operation, Udala police seized 171 liters of country liquor from a private bus at Udala bus stand in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. This liquor was being transported hidden in cold drink bottles. In this case, the police have arrested three smugglers, who have been identified as Sanyasi Bisoi, Umakant Das and Putu Singh. All three are residents of Bhubaneswar, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts.
According to the police, the country liquor was being transported from Khunta to Bhubaneswar. They had received a tip-off that a consignment of illegal liquor was being sent in a private bus named "Raja Babu". The police immediately took action and stopped the bus and searched it. During the search, 171 liters of country liquor filled in cold drink bottles was recovered.
Money was received on safe delivery of the bag
The arrested accused told that they were going to deliver this liquor from Khunta to the Hi-Tech area of Bhubaneswar. They were paid Rs 500 for the safe delivery of each bag. Sanyasi Bisoi also admitted that this was his first time smuggling country liquor. Police have seized 76 cold drink bottles, which were filled with about 171 liters of country liquor. Police is now investigating the case in depth and is searching for other accused of this big smuggling network.
Most of the tribal people live in Mayurbhanj
The officer of Udala police station said, "Country liquor is consumed in the slum areas of Bhubaneswar. Tribal people live in large numbers in Mayurbhanj. Hence some people make country liquor here. Some people come from Bhubaneswar and take it away. In this case also, liquor was being carried in cold drink bottles, whom we caught red handed." The cost of the country liquor caught is said to be 50 thousand rupees. Three people have been arrested in this case. The police have taken action against the accused under special section 52 (A) in this case. The officer also said that there is a big gang of people smuggling country liquor, which is being investigated.
When the police found alcohol in cold drink bottles, the situation was shocking because drinking country liquor not only makes people intoxicated, but many times it also leads to death. The police and the excise department took immediate action in this case and have caught the smugglers and started investigating their network.
