
Normal life was affected in Tamil Nadu's Udhagamandalam (formerly Ooty) town on Friday as the mercury dropped to zero degrees Celsius for the second time in a month. Citing latest weather data, officials said Udhagamandalam and Sandinalla, popularly known as Ooty, recorded a temperature of zero degrees. They said many parts of Udhagamandalam and adjoining areas, including Kanthal and Thalaikuntha, were covered with a thin layer of snow.
Frozen water in containers
Due to the fall in temperature in Udhagamandalam, vehicles parked in the open were covered with snow, water kept in containers froze. People were seen removing snow from the windshields of their four-wheelers. Normal life was affected due to the severe cold. The streets of Udhagamandalam wore a deserted look with very few vehicles seen on the roads and people confined themselves inside their homes.
People came to town warming themselves by the bonfire
On Friday morning, people were seen warming themselves by bonfires at many places. Similar weather conditions were witnessed in the beginning of January this year when the mercury in this area dropped to zero and the temperature in nearby Avalanche went down to minus two degrees Celsius.
