Mumbai: A 25-year-old passenger has been arrested for allegedly assaulting the cabin crew and trying to open the door of an Air India flight from Calicut to Bahrain. Sahar police said the arrested passenger, Abdul Musavir Nadukandeel, hails from Kerala.

Officials said that on Saturday afternoon, Air India Express airline officials were informed that the plane had been diverted. After this, Abdul Musavir, who was sitting on seat number 15D, went to the rear of the plane and started assaulting the cabin crew. After the attack, he tried to open the door of the plane.

Abuse and assault on nearby passengers

Another cabin crew member stopped Abdul and brought him back to his seat. Despite this, Abdul continued to misbehave and assault passengers nearby. An official said that due to the security threat, the pilot landed the plane at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the afternoon.

Abdul was taken into custody by security officials

After this, the security officials of Air India Express detained Abdul and took him to Sahar Police Station. The police registered a case and arrested Abdul. He was produced in the court on Sunday.

Intelligence Bureau (IB) is looking into the matter

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is also looking into the matter and they will now investigate why he tried to open the door of the plane. Officials said they will also investigate if Abdul has any links with terrorist organisations and what other crimes he has committed.
