
News Topical, Digital Desk : National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) on Tuesday signed an agreement with the Uttarakhand Tourism Department for the development of two ropeway projects worth Rs 6,800 crore. National Highways Logistics Management Limited is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
These ropeways include the 12.9-km-long Sonprayag-Kedarnath project at an estimated cost of Rs 4,100 crore and the 12.4-km-long Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib project at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore.
A journey of hours will be completed in minutes
Let us tell you that the Kedarnath ropeway project will be no less than a boon for the travelers. Currently, devotees have to undertake a very challenging journey of 16 kilometers from Gaurikund to reach the Kedarnath temple. At present, this distance has to be covered on foot, pony, palanquin and helicopter. After the ropeway is built, the journey of 8 to 9 hours can be covered in just 36 minutes. The Hemkund Sahib ropeway will be 12.4 km long, which will make the journey of 21 km easier. Currently, pilgrims have to undertake the difficult journey of 21 kilometers from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib.
These projects are expected to expand ropeway connectivity and strengthen the economy of the state by promoting tourism.
What did CM Dhami say?
The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta and State Tourism, Religious Affairs and Culture Minister Satpal Maharaj. Dhami said that this agreement will give global recognition to the religious and cultural heritage of the state and will provide new direction to tourism, employment generation and environmental protection. Tamta said that this is an important day in terms of ropeway development in the state.
