News Topical, Digital Desk : In a well-planned operation late Thursday night, the CBI arrested Sanjeev Dixit, an accused who had been absconding for 10 years and had defrauded banks of crores of rupees, from the Dharamshala of Tripura Sundari Temple in Banswara, Rajasthan.
The accused had been staying in a Dharamshala for the past three days under the assumed name "Sanjay Bhardwaj." The highlight of this raid was that the CBI team remained overnight in the room adjacent to the one where the accused was sleeping and arrested the fraudster in the morning.
According to the CBI, Sanjeev Dixit, a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, obtained loans totaling approximately ₹20-25 crore from various banks using forged documents and then absconded without repaying them. A case was filed against him in 2013, he was arrested in 2014, but he escaped from Sonipat police custody in 2016. Subsequently, in 2017, a CBI court declared him a fugitive.
The CBI received information that the accused was hiding in the Tripura Sundari Temple area. Around 9 p.m. on Thursday night, the team investigated Dharamshala and discovered he was staying in a hotel. Instead of attempting to apprehend him at night, the team strategically booked a nearby room and kept watch throughout the night.
The accused was arrested at 5 a.m. Friday morning in coordination with the Banswara Sadar police station. The CBI has also arrested the accused's wife, Aarti Sharma, from Vadodara in a separate case related to this case.
Sanjeev Dixit continued to commit fraud by creating fake documents under different names. He introduced himself as an astrologer wherever he went. The accused arrived at the temple in a car with a Delhi registration number.
