Deoria:  One of the 62 students who fell ill after eating stale chickpeas at the Government Ashram School, Mehrauna, died on Wednesday during treatment at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. As soon as this information was received, there was a stir in the district administration.

On Tuesday night around 11.30 pm, Shivam Yadav, a class six resident of Ramnagar Farenda district Maharajganj, started shivering, had high fever and vomiting. After that he was shifted from the general ward to the PICU.

His condition worsened there. After which he was referred to BRD Medical College. He was treated overnight. His condition worsened at around 11 am. He died during treatment.

Students' stool will be tested

61 students are currently undergoing treatment at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, Deoria. Preparations are underway to collect stool samples of these students, which will be sent to BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur for testing.

magisterial probe ordered

District Magistrate Divya Mittal has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case of students falling ill after eating stale chickpeas in the Ashram Paddhati School. Additional Deputy District Magistrate Awadhesh Nigam has been given the responsibility of investigation for this. On Wednesday, Nigam took the statements of the children admitted in the medical college and after that went to the school and talked to the children present there.

Relatives are worried to get a glimpse of their sick children

The doctors are treating the sick children admitted in the ward on the third floor of the new OPD of the medical college. In such a situation, the relatives who have come from various areas of Maharajganj and Deoria to meet the students admitted in the ward are troubled the whole day. Sitting on the floor outside the ward, they went inside one by one to meet the students. There was a crowd of relatives here from morning till evening.

There is no warden posted in the hostel

Questions are being raised about the teaching system in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Government Ashram System School Mehrauna. There is no warden posted in the hostel. In the current session, a total of 326 children have been enrolled from sixth to twelfth class, out of which about three hundred students are always present. Only five teachers are posted against 20 posts of lecturer and LT.

At present, the school is being run with the help of four teachers, a principal and a pharmacist. Two gardeners and six staff from outsourcing have been hired for other works. Eight posts of lecturer, seven posts of LT and one post of warden are vacant.
