News Topical, Digital Desk : A major train accident has occurred in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. More than 20 people have been injured. The accident occurred near the Liniers railway station in Buenos Aires when a slow-moving train suddenly derailed.

Three carriages of a Sarmiento Line passenger train derailed. Train services on the entire route were halted following the accident. The accident was caused by a fault in the interlocking system.

How did the accident happen?

The interlocking system controls the track switches. Due to its malfunction, the train's wheels slipped off the tracks despite moving at a slow speed, derailing three coaches. A video of the accident has also surfaced on social media, showing the train accident unfolding.

Passengers trapped in the coach were rescued.

The entire train was in chaos after the accident. Many passengers were trapped inside the coaches. Firefighters arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident and all passengers were evacuated. The injured have been hospitalized. Following the accident, the railway administration suspended train services between Kasteller and Morena stations.

9 injured admitted to hospital

Giving details of the incident, the railway administration said, "Twenty passengers were injured in the incident. Eleven were treated on the spot. Nine passengers were admitted to a nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The cause of the accident is under investigation."
