News Topical, Digital Desk : Since Chinese President Xi Jinping assumed power, several military officers have been prosecuted for corruption. To take advantage of this situation, the US intelligence agency, the CIA, has openly offered to inform on these officers, angering China.

The CIA posted a video on its YouTube channel about this. The video depicts a disillusioned, fictional mid-level Chinese military officer. In the video, the officer says in Mandarin, “Anyone with leadership potential falls under suspicion and is ruthlessly eliminated.”

Efforts to re-establish access

Previously, last year, the CIA released videos in Chinese language about how to contact them securely. CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the agency's videos have reached many Chinese citizens and will continue to provide Chinese government officials with an opportunity to work together toward a brighter future.

"Our previous videos reached millions of people and inspired new ones," a CIA official said on condition of anonymity, but did not provide any details.

Indeed, the CIA is investing heavily in countering China, seeking to reinvigorate its reach, which was curtailed after Beijing eliminated or imprisoned several American agents between 2010 and 2012.
