News Topical, Digital Desk : In a case of violence in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district, a youth was publicly humiliated and beaten up for marrying his girlfriend against the wishes of her family. The couple, Sai Chand and Sai Durga, had been in a relationship for eight years. Despite being together for so long, Sai Durga's family reportedly refused to approve of the relationship.

Marriage under police protection

Going against their families' wishes, the couple married a few days ago under police protection. Sai Chand's parents attended the wedding, but Sai Durga's family stayed away. Angered by the marriage, Sai Durga's relatives reportedly tracked down Sai Chand shortly after the ceremony.

Video of the incident went viral

A video of the incident has gone viral, showing Sai Chand being dragged by his hair, tied to an electric pole, repeatedly slapped and assaulted. Police say, "It appears that Sai Durga's parents were not in favour of the marriage as Sai Durga was working in the postal department while Sai Chand was still unemployed. We have registered a case of kidnapping and assault. No one is allowed to bypass the legal system to settle personal or family grievances."
