Yemen-based Houthi rebels, supporting Iran, announced that if necessary, they would block the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea, restricting shipping. Significantly, efforts to reach a deal between the United States and Iran have intensified.
America's 15 conditions
While the US has submitted a 15-point proposal to Iran, Iran has conveyed its five demands to the US. Meanwhile, Israel has expressed fears that negotiations with Iran could fail because Iran is unlikely to agree to the US's stringent conditions.
The US has intensified pressure on Iran, and a significant US military presence has been deployed around Iran. Experts believe this is a pressure tactic to prevent the negotiations from succeeding.
The White House has claimed that meaningful talks are underway with Iran.
