News Topical, Digital Desk : There's some relief for North India, which has been suffering from intense heat and a heatwave for the past several days. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the weather is about to change across much of the country.

Due to the activation of 'Western Disturbance', there will be a period of rain, dust storm and strong winds for the next few days, due to which the temperature is expected to drop by 3 to 4 degrees.

Hope for relief for NCR including the capital Delhi

The Meteorological Department has issued a special alert for the capital and surrounding areas. Signs of a change in the weather began appearing as early as Monday evening.

  • Weather: Cloudy sky will prevail from Tuesday for the next 3 days, light rain and showers with thunder and lightning are likely. Strong winds: Gusty winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 60 kmph.
  • Alert: While the heat wave may subside, temperatures will still hover around 40°C. Dust storms may reduce road visibility, so exercise caution while driving.
  • Caution: Avoid standing under old trees, power poles, and dilapidated billboards during dust storms. People with asthma or respiratory problems should wear masks.

Similarly, the Meteorological Department  has also indicated a major change in the weather of about half of the country due to the impact of Western Disturbance.

Why the change in weather?

According to weather experts, there are two main reasons for this change-

  • Western Disturbance: This weather system, active in Pakistan, is moving towards northwest India. This is bringing dust-laden winds from the Thar Desert to Delhi-NCR and the surrounding plains.
  • Cyclonic Circulation: Due to the cyclonic pressure formed over Central Pakistan and Rajasthan, favourable weather conditions are being created in North India.

While one part of the country is suffering from intense heat and heatwaves, another is bracing for rain. Experts believe this change could lead to an average temperature drop of 3 to 4 degrees.

If you're in areas with intense heat, stay hydrated (drink plenty of water). People living in areas prone to dust storms should try to stay indoors and protect electrical appliances.
