News Topical, Digital Desk : A student from Tripura was attacked and killed in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, earlier this month. The murder case has now reached the Supreme Court. The petition seeks immediate judicial intervention to address the constitutional failure to address racial violence against people from the northeastern states.

The PIL refers to the death of Angel Chakma on December 26. He was a final-year MBA student at a university in Uttarakhand. He was allegedly racially assaulted on December 9, leaving him seriously injured.

Chakma's brother filed a complaint

According to a complaint filed by Chakma's brother, Michael, the brothers were stopped by a group of youths, which led to an altercation that escalated into violence. They were drunk and attacked with sharp weapons.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh clarified that no racial violence has been reported. He said that Angel Chakma, a resident of Tripura, who was injured in a fight between two groups of youths in the Selaqui area, died on December 26th while undergoing treatment.

He stated that some people are spreading this incident on the internet media, linking it to racial discrimination. During the investigation so far, no instances of racial discrimination or violence have been uncovered, nor has any such incident been mentioned in the complaint filed by the victim.
